How It Started
RoamWorldTours grew from a lifelong curiosity about places, people and the stories that connect them.
I’m Pilar, the founder of RoamWorldTours. Amsterdam has been my home for nearly three decades, while travel has taken me across Europe, Asia and Africa — sometimes for a few weeks, sometimes for months at a time.
I’ve never been particularly interested in travelling simply to tick attractions off a list. I want to understand a place: its history, its neighbourhoods, its culture, its hidden corners and the people who call it home.
Over the years, I realised that some of my most memorable experiences happened when I discovered a destination through someone who genuinely knew it.
During extended travels abroad, I met local guides in different countries, stayed in contact with many of them and built relationships that continued long after the trip ended. Some of those guides are now interested in becoming part of what we’re building with RoamWorldTours.
That was part of the inspiration for creating something that could eventually reach far beyond Amsterdam.
A Little About Me
My route into travel has been somewhat unconventional.
I studied Fundamental and Theoretical Physics and built much of my professional career in technology, digital products and innovation, working with international teams. At the same time, I continued travelling extensively and spent extended periods living abroad.
Travel has taken me from exploring cities and remote landscapes to becoming a certified scuba-diving instructor in Indonesia. What connects all of these experiences is curiosity — wanting to understand what’s beneath the surface rather than simply seeing what’s in front of me.
That same curiosity is at the heart of RoamWorldTours.
What Is RoamWorldTours?
RoamWorldTours creates private tours, small-group experiences, bespoke tours and bespoke itineraries for travellers who want to experience a destination in a more personal way.
We are starting in Amsterdam, the city we know best.
You can choose one of our carefully designed experiences or tell us what you’re interested in and let us create something around you.
Because no two travellers are exactly alike.
One person may be fascinated by Amsterdam’s history. Another by architecture, food, art or Jewish heritage. Someone else may want hidden neighbourhoods, unusual stories or simply an afternoon far removed from the standard tourist trail.
Our bespoke tours and itineraries begin with the traveller, rather than asking the traveller to fit into a predetermined itinerary.

We believe the best experiences leave room for discovery.
Our private and bespoke experiences are designed around personal interests, thoughtful pacing and local knowledge rather than rushing from one attraction to another.
For some travellers, that might mean adapting one of our existing private tours.
For others, it might mean creating an entirely bespoke itinerary based on their interests, available time, group, budget and preferred pace.
We can combine neighbourhoods, stories and experiences to create something that feels like their Amsterdam rather than everybody else’s.
And because our groups are intentionally small, there is time to ask questions, have conversations and follow the unexpected threads that often become the most memorable part of a day.
Travel With Respect
We believe tourism should be a positive force for both travellers and the places they visit.
For us, that means creating experiences that respect local communities, neighbourhoods and everyday life, while encouraging travellers to experience a destination with curiosity and consideration.
We favour small groups and thoughtfully designed routes over mass-tourism experiences. We encourage respectful behaviour in residential areas, cultural sites and places where tourism intersects with local life.
As RoamWorldTours grows beyond Amsterdam, we want to work with local guides and partners, helping ensure that the people who know and live in a destination are part of the experiences we create.
Sustainability is also about how we travel. Wherever practical, our experiences prioritise walking, cycling and public transport, allowing travellers to experience a destination at a slower pace while reducing unnecessary environmental impact.
Our goal is not simply to bring more visitors to a place. It is to help people travel better — with greater awareness of the places they visit and the communities that call them home.
Our Guides
A great itinerary matters. The person bringing it to life matters just as much.
We work with guides who bring their own knowledge, personality and perspective to an experience.
We don’t believe great guiding means memorising a script and repeating it several times a day. A great guide knows how to tell a story, read a group, answer questions and adapt an experience to the people standing in front of them.
As RoamWorldTours grows, this principle will remain central to how we select guides and partners.
Amsterdam Experiences makes a similar emphasis on guides as storytellers who can adapt to guests rather than simply follow a fixed script; I think that positioning is particularly appropriate for the bespoke model you’re building.

Sometimes the result might resemble one of our existing tours. Sometimes it may be completely different.
That’s the point.
Amsterdam First. The World Beyond.
RoamWorldTours is starting in Amsterdam deliberately.
It’s our home, it’s where our current experiences and guide network are strongest, and it’s where we can develop our approach carefully rather than trying to be everywhere at once.
But the long-term vision extends beyond one city.
During years of travelling, I’ve met guides and local people in destinations around the world. Some of those relationships have lasted for years, and some of those guides would like to work with RoamWorldTours.
As we grow, we plan to expand city by city, working with trusted local guides and partners to develop distinctive experiences and bespoke itineraries in other destinations.
We don’t want to become another enormous catalogue containing thousands of interchangeable activities.
We want to grow carefully, while preserving what matters: local knowledge, personal connection, curiosity and experiences shaped around the traveller.
For Travellers and Travel Professionals
RoamWorldTours works directly with travellers, but we’re also building relationships with travel advisors, hotels, concierges, travel creators and other travel professionals.
For partners, we want to provide a reliable local point of contact for travellers looking for private and bespoke experiences — with the flexibility to adapt an itinerary to the person rather than simply sell an off-the-shelf tour.
As our destination network grows, that same approach can extend beyond Amsterdam.
